LONDON, UK- 14 November 2024
The speakers at London Global Cancer Week 2024 delivered exceptional presentations, and we greatly appreciated their contributions during the Spotlight on Radiotherapy Session.
During this important session, three key insights vital to the development of radiotherapy were highlighted:
Access, Clinical Service & Patient Flow
The speakers shared ways to improve patient care through optimizing workflow, integrating technology, and managing resources efficiently. Standardized procedures and automated planning in radiotherapy will improve accuracy and efficiency. Effective resource management and procurement practices ensure equipment availability and cost control. Reducing the barriers to treatment, such as cost, transportation and language, can support broader patient access to treatment.
Value-based Funding and Evaluation
Aiming to make radiotherapy both high-quality and affordable requires sustained funding. The speakers shared ideas on collaborative funding approaches, including public and private partnerships, sustained funding beyond political cycles, with an emphasis on data-driven decision-making for continuous improvement. Developing new radiotherapy facilities requires careful planning and regulatory support to ensure safety and quality for patients and staff.
Implementing Quality Radiotherapy
Industry partnerships are key to advancing quality in radiotherapy, with a focus on introducing innovative technologies and standards. Comprehensive cancer control plans, supported by cross-disciplinary collaboration, aim to improve radiotherapy access and quality. Continuous training and education for healthcare staff ensure that teams stay updated on best practices and can adapt to new technologies and standards.
We are grateful to the speakers for their insights and expertise, and for the discussions and participation from those attending. We also want to recognize our sponsors for the event:
